This is probably, as they say, a "no-brainer," but Matador Records offers a great selection of free MP3s from their stable of artists. I mentioned in an earlier post that their site was down but it seems fine now. The new New Pornographers single can be found there. SubPop also has numerous free downloads on their website. As does most any decent label, I suppose...

Ran across an interesting little article on Slate.com called Power Pop and Its Discontents. It summarize five new/old power pop records. I can vouch for Sloan and Spoon, although I haven't heard the specific albums mentioned (they are on my To-Download list from eMusic.com, though). FYI, I tried following the link to the new New Pornographers song but the Matador records site seems to be down. Couldn't get to their main home page, either.
